| dc.description |
Ebenezer Buckingham, Jr., born in Greenfield, Connecticut, arrived alone in Marietta, Ohio, in 1796. Befriended by Rufus Putnam (1738-1824), who taught him surveying and placed him with a surveying party, Buckingham remained in southeast Ohio until 1799, when he returned east and persuaded his family to join him in the western country. He later settled in Zanesville, Ohio, where he established a trading post and continued in business until his death. This notebook contains field notes of his surveys in federal survey ranges 8 and 9. |
