Title: Rufus Putnam draft letter to Henry Knox
Author: Putnam, Rufus, 1738-1824
Description: Putnam's letter written at Marietta, to Knox, Secretary of War, describes the Indian attack 20 miles up the Muskingum on March 11 and near Belpre on the same morning. On 13 March two men attacked a mile from Campus Martius; one, Capt. Rogers, killed. Putnam doubts the ability of the settlements to protect themselves and looks forward to the Army for protection. Recommends Daniel Story for position of army chaplain.
