Description: The treaty consists of seven articles: (1) a pledge of perpetual peace and friendship between the United States and the Wabash and Illinois Indians; (2) The Indians acknowledge themselves under the protection of the United States; (3) The Indians will return to the commanding officer at Fort Knox all white inhabitants or negroes who are prisoners among the tribes; (4) The United States guanrantee to the Wabash and Illinois tribes all the lands to which they have a just claim; (5) The Indians promise no further hostilities against the citizens of the United States; (6) In cases of violence against either party, satisfaction shall be sought before retaliation; (7) The contracting parties shall execute the treaty in good faith.
